Our diaspora..our ambassadors!!

As of 2010, with a population of more than 30million, the Indian diaspora is the second largest non-resident community in the world only after the Overseas Chinese community!!

According to the constitution of India:
Non-Resident Indian/प्रवासी भारतीय (NRI) is an Indian citizen who has migrated to another country, a person of Indian origin who is born outside India, or a person of Indian origin who resides permanently outside India.

  • In Britain the term Asians is used to describe people from the subcontinent.
  • In the Middle-East Arabs generally refer to Indians as Hindis.

  • The richest Briton is NRI steel tycoon Lakshmi Niwas Mittal with an estimated fortune of £10.8 billion in 2009.
  • Piyush Amrit "Bobby" Jindal (born June 10, 1971) is the 55th and current Governor of Louisiana and formerly a member of the United States House of Representatives.
  • The present President of Singapore, S.R. Nathan, is a Tamil of Indian descent.
  • The current Governer General of New Zealand, Anand Satyanand, is of Indian descent.   
  • The current President of Mauritius, Anerood Jugnauth is of Indian descent.
  • Almost 40% of all Indians in the United States have a master’s, doctorate or other professional degree, which is five times the national average
  • The Information Technology industry is virtually run by Indians around the globe.
  • 36% of NASA scientists are Indians: US Govt. Survey
  • 34% employees at Microsoft, 28% at IBM, 17% at Intel and 13% at Xerox are Indians.
  • 38% doctors in the US are Indians.
