Indo-American ties...

USA..."the land of OPPORTUNITY"..."the land of FREEDOM"..had always caught the fancy of Indians.

India as a nation has always had a luv-hate relation with the USA ever since Independence...luv because of the principles of Democracy that were first implemented in independent USA were also adopted by India upon independence.
The Americans have highest regard n respect for India because India is the WORLDS LARGEST DEMOCRACY.

After Indian independence until the end of the cold war, the relationship between the two nations has often been thorny. Dwight Eisenhower was the first U.S. President to visit India in 1959. He was so supportive of India that the New York Times remarked "It did not seem to matter much whether Nehru had actually requested or been given a guarantee that the U.S. would help India to meet further Chinese communist aggression. What mattered was the obvious strengthening of Indian-American friendship to a point where no such guarantee was necessary."

There has always been a mutual admiration and respect between AMERICANS n INDIANS.

During John F. Kennedy's period as President, he saw India as a strategic partner against the rise of communist China.

Today the 2 countries share excellent diplomatic relations and have huge business interests together...India has a strong dplomatic representation all across the USA with an embassy in Washington D.C. & Consulates in New York, Chicago, Houston n San Francisco. Thats the strongest Indian diplomatic representation in any country!!
USA too has an excellent diplomatic representation in India with an embassy in New Delhi and consulates in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata and Hyderabad.

Today, the United States is India's largest trading partner.
  • In 2007, the United States exported $17.24 billion worth goods to India and imported $24.02 billion worth of Indian goods.
  • The United States is also India's largest investment partner, with American direct investment of $9 billion accounting for 9% of total foreign investment into India.
  • Circa 2010..USA considers India as a strategic partner in the region and also an upcoming superpower.
  • Indians students form the 2nd largest international students community in USA...
  • Majority of USA outsourcing business lands up in India...this has given Bangalore the moniker or 'Silicon Valley of the East'!!;)

....to be contd
